by it's a beautiful place

Hakea is a lovely Australian native shrub.  The prickly leaves offer wonderful protection for little birds.

I discovered a path lined with Hakeas today.  It is the first time I’ve managed to have a really good look at this plant.  The seed pods are great.

Hakea grow well from seed, so collect now & plant in a seed-raising mix with a bit of vermiculite.  They will germinate in two to three months.

One of the images shows two minuscule insect eggs.  Whatever they are, they have hatched.  I love finding treasures like this.

24th January 2014 – Apparently the close-up of the spent flowers in a line is actually Kunzea ambigua, not a Hakea.
